Betty Jean Burd

Betty Jean Burd, 90 of Follansbee, WV passed away peacefully, on Friday, February 15, 2013 at Golden Oaks Personal Care Home.

She was born on April 29, 1922 in Wheeling, WV a daughter of the late Ira Don and Bertha (Kelley) Millington. In addition to her parents Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard O. “Moe” Burd, and two sisters-in-law, Betty (James) Long, and Kay (William) Carter.

Betty graduated from Follansbee High School in 1939 and later the Grace Martin Business School. She retired from the Diocese of Wheeling Charleston where she worked for many years as a secretary. Betty was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was a member of the Y.W.C.A. and the Women’s Civic League also.

Betty is survived by four devoted children, Kathleen (Robert) Korbel, Karen (Mike) Biela, Michael (Sandra C.) Burd, and Jeffrey (Sandy) Burd all of Follansbee, WV, A niece, Susan (Jerry) Nolan of Mingo Junction, OH, Seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, February 20th from 9:00 A.M. until time of a memorial mass that will be celebrated on at 10:00 A.M. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church at 1017 Jefferson St. Follansbee, WV with the Rev. Msgr. Gene Ostrowski and the Rev. Fr. Pete Giannamore as con celebrants. Inurnment will be held privately in Oak Grove Cemetery, Follansbee, WV. The family would like to thank the staff of Golden Oaks Personal Care Home and Valley Hospice for the care they gave their mother. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in care of the Bell Tower Fund at 1017 Jefferson St. in Follansbee, WV 26037. Arrangements by the Mullenbach Funeral Home 669 Main St. Follansbee, WV.
